Since the end of World War II, the popularity of bingo exploded in the United States. The game became synonymous with social gatherings, and larger bingo halls were established across the country.

To match this growth in popularity, the prize money available to winners also grew rapidly, which in turn attracted a huge audience across the country. Casinos also have played a part in the growth of bingo, as many casinos house a bingo hall, meaning bingo halls have been attracting more and more casino customers that they might have previously missed out on.

Ahead of World Bingo Day on June 27, Gambling.com wanted to determine which U.S. state is most Bingo-Mad. To find this out, the data research team calculated which state has the most Bingo Halls per 100,000 residents. Please see the findings below:

Montana Are Bingo Mad

Montana is ranked the No.1 state for Bingo Halls per 100,000 residents, making it the most Bingo-Mad state.

A Western state with a population of just 1.140 million people, Montana has 324 bingo halls. That has resulted in just over 28 bingo halls per 100,000 residents.

This figure is much greater than any other state, with the nearest being Vermont (#2) with 8.2 bingo halls per 100,000 residents.

Casinos play a huge part in the booming bingo scene in Montana, with most of the bingo halls located within a casino. There are three cities in Montana that have large clusters of bingo halls, Billings, Missoula and Great Falls.

West Virginia (#3) also is included on our bingo-podium, with 6.9 bingo halls per 100,000 residents.

North Dakota (#4) and New Mexico (#5) round out the Top 5 with 6.4 and 5.5, respectively.

Nevada Surprisingly Low

While Nevada is ultimately the mecca for gamblers all over the world, according to our research the Silver State only has 24 bingo halls, and with a population of just over 3.2 million, that means the state only has 0.7 bingo halls per 100,000 residents. That puts Nevada at 45th in our ranking.

Las Vegas unsurprisingly has the most bingo halls within Nevada, but the rest of the state only has a small number.

Hawaii and Tennessee Come Up Empty

According to our research, Hawaii and Tennessee have no bingo halls. In Tennessee many bingo halls have seen a decline in attendance, resulting in them being closed or repurposed entirely. In Hawaii, strict rules on gambling have meant that bingo halls aren’t a feature of the Aloha State.

Two of the most populated states in the U.S., New York and California, are #43 and #46, respectively. While both states have a combined 390 bingo halls, the large population in each state means they both have under one bingo hall per 100,000 residents.

The state with the most bingo halls is Pennsylvania with 702 locations. However, the state’s 13 million people means it only has 5.4 bingo halls per 100,000 residents.
