Louisiana sports betting surpasses New York per capita

Following the launch of sports betting in Louisiana on January 28, GeoComply witnessed its success. Since the launch, over 3.4 million geolocation transactions* took place.

During the first 36 hours, the total number of unique players represented 3.6% of Louisiana’s adult population. This outperformed New York’s opening weekend where the number of unique players represented 3.3% of adult population. Between January 29 and 30, Louisiana ranked 8th in terms of GeoComply’s transaction volumes (total number of geolocation checks). 68% of GeoComply’s volumes occurred within the southeastern section of the state, encompassing Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

Founded in 2011, GeoComply provides fraud prevention and cybersecurity solutions that detect location fraud and help verify a user’s true digital identity. Its products are based on the technologies developed for the regulated US online gaming and sports betting market. Beyond iGaming, GeoComply provides geolocation fraud detection solutions for streaming video broadcasters and the online banking, payments and cryptocurrency industries, building an extensive list of global customers including Amazon Prime Video, BBC, Akamai, DraftKings, FanDuel and MGM.

*Geolocation transactions are not equivalent to total wagers, but a strong indicator of market activity.
