Today, we pause to honour the life and legacy of a friend and true pioneer in the gaming industry, Gary Platt.

The story of Gary Platt Seating isn’t just about furniture; it’s about revolutionising the casino floor. In the late 1950s, Gary saw something no one else did. At a time when players stood at machines, Gary introduced the concept of putting a seat in front of a slot machine. That one simple, visionary shift changed the industry forever, prioritising player comfort long before it was an industry standard.

A Magnetic Presence

Beyond his sketches and business deals, Gary was an incredible person to know. He possessed a magnetic and charismatic presence that could light up any showroom or boardroom. To those who worked alongside him, he wasn’t just a visionary—he was a larger-than-life personality whose warmth and wit made him a favourite across the industry. One of the most telling stories about Gary’s character was his “open door” reputation: he was one of the very few people who could walk into any office, at any time—without an appointment—and be greeted with a warm smile and an immediate invitation to come on in.

From Vision to Reality

Gary’s support of Bob Yabroff, who founded the Gary Platt brand, helped spark and ignite what would become the first gaming furniture company of its kind and with Gary’s namesake. Together, they took that initial vision of comfort and built a foundation of quality that became the gold standard for gaming seating worldwide. Gary wasn’t just the architect of an idea; he was the architect of a philosophy: If the player is comfortable, everyone wins.

As we look back on Gary’s incredible life, we are reminded that every stitch and every frame we produce carries his original spirit. Our thoughts are with his family and the many lives he touched throughout his storied career.
